Costa Rica is a paradise for adventure motorcyclists, offering an incredible mix of rugged mountain trails, lush rainforests, coastal roads, and river crossings. However, the weather plays a huge role in shaping the riding experience, and knowing what to expect can make or break a trip.
Our routes are meant to challenge and excite, but conditions vary greatly depending on the season. Here’s what you need to know about the weather along our
Tropical Treasure Trail and Eco-Discovery Route to help you plan the perfect ride.
Two Seasons, Two Different Adventures
Costa Rica has two primary seasons:
Dry Season (December – April): This is the best time for predictable riding conditions. The sun is out, river levels are lower, and the trails are in their best shape. However, temperatures can get hot, especially on the Pacific coast.
Rainy Season (May – November): Also called the “green season,” this time of year offers lush landscapes and fewer tourists, but the riding gets more technical. Mud, deep river crossings, and slippery trails can make some routes impassable.
How Weather Affects Our Adventure Routes
Tropical Treasure Trail (Fly-in, Rent-a-Moto Experience)
Dry Season: The best time to ride this route. Roads and trails are firm, river crossings are manageable, and visibility is excellent. Some sections can get dusty, so a buff or dust mask is recommended.
Rainy Season: Expect a real adventure! Some sections may become extremely challenging or require alternative routes. River crossings swell, muddy sections become slippery, and mountain fog can reduce visibility.
Eco-Discovery Route (For Overland Travelers Passing Through Costa Rica)
Dry Season: The perfect time for a trouble-free crossing through Costa Rica. Hard-packed dirt roads and clear skies make for an enjoyable ride. Keep in mind that the northern regions can get very hot and dry.
Rainy Season: Depending on the month, you might hit heavy rains that can turn some sections into a test of skill and endurance. Some remote areas may be impassable, and detours might be necessary.
Tips for Riding in Different Conditions
Dry Season: Stay hydrated, use sun protection, and be prepared for dust on dirt roads.
Rainy Season: Pack waterproof gear, carry extra fuel, and be ready for unpredictable terrain changes. Always check river levels before crossing.
Year-Round: Keep an eye on local weather forecasts and talk to locals or rental companies about current conditions before setting out.

For most riders, the dry season (December – April) is the best time to tackle our routes with minimal surprises. However, if you're an experienced rider looking for a more intense adventure, the rainy season will test your skills and push you to the limit.
